The Dancer Upstairs actress Elvira Minguez will portray Spanish poetess Mercedes Pinto in a new film by David Baute. At the young age of 20, Pinto moved from Islas Canarias to Madrid and began work in the newspapers and magazines such as “Prensa Gráfica” or “Lecturas.” In 1923, she held a conference entitled “A Divorce as Hygienic Measure” that was the cause of her exile during Primo de Rivera’s Dictatorship.  She moved to Uruguay, and wrote her famous novel “Él,” adapted to screen by Luis Buñuel. She died in Mexico D.F. and her epitaph reads a poem by Pablo Neruda written for her. Production starts in May.
